I am an herbalist based in Lenape territory (Brooklyn, NY), originally from Philadelphia, PA. I am honored to share and receive insights through connecting with people from many walks of life on their various paths of healing. My work takes on many forms including workshops, consultations, land-tending, and crafting herbal goods. My experience has led me to believe that community-based holistic healthcare is a tangible, collaborative step toward personal and collective well-being.
In 2023, I founded Nommo Apothecary, a botanical line offering vibrant local herbs harvested at their peak and grown through Earth-minded practices for year-round support guided by the seasons. A bit more about the name and concept in which my practice is based around:
Nommo is a concept derived from the Dogon of Mali, meaning “to make one drink.” It denotes the generative power of the spoken word as a force that gives life to everything. Nommo is the process undertaken in Community to foster transformation by naming the current reality and re-imagining a shared future. The concept involves active participation along with a holistic approach to wellbeing.
In applying the concept more directly to herbs, I find that healing is never a solo act, but continual action that’s employed via communal effort. How do we view and name our ailments? Language is vital in pursuing health! Whether it be tea, tonic, or tincture, these medicines evoke vital life force!
